What is Zipcar and how does it work?

Zipcar is a car sharing service that Antje Danielson and Robin Chase founded in 2000 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Members of the service can rent cars by the hour or day, accessing the vehicles using a special card (called a “Zipcard”) or the company’s mobile app.

Can you leave a Zipcar anywhere?

Your Zipcar should always be returned to the home location the vehicle belongs to (this is where you picked the vehicle up from unless otherwise advised) at the end of your trip. If you’re dropping off at a location that has more than one Zipcar space, any of them will do.

Smoking is absolutely prohibited in Zipcar vehicles.

Can someone else drive my Zipcar?

Only active members are allowed to drive Zipcars. If you have a family account, other drivers on your account are authorized to drive the Zipcar. If a Zipcar member on a different account is driving the Zipcar you reserved, we ask you be along for the ride.

Do you get money back if you return Zipcar early?

“You can always return your Zipcar early, as long as it has at least 1/4 tank of gas. Since you technically have the car for the full time, you won’t get any money back for returning a Zipcar early as another member can’t rent it until the end of your reservation.

Are all Zipcars automatic?

We have both manual and automatic vehicles in Zipcar’s fleet. To get going you just: Manual – put key in the ignition, foot on the clutch, wiggle the steering wheel to remove the steering wheel lock, whilst at the same time turning the ignition.

Do Zipcars have GPS?

Zipcars are equipped with vehicle tracking and anti-theft technology that uses Global Positioning System (GPS). GPS is a network of satellites that allows us to determine the location (latitude and longitude) of Zipcars during your reservation. This information is transmitted to Zipcar and stored.
