Rankings, by the way, can say impressively little. No ranking system out there will tell you that UT’s Turing Scholars program is one of the best CS honors programs in the country. In fact, it’s one of the only honors programs for computer science in the country.
How hard is Computer Science at UT Austin?
Other than that, CS at UT is as difficult as you choose to make it. In my opinion, a lot of the elective classes are not difficult (borderline blowoff), with the exception of some topics courses (CS 378) and honors classes, which you can apply for even if you’re not in the honors program.
How hard is it to get into UT Austin out of state?

Historically, the admitted student profiles based on rank and test scores for Texans and non-Texans was relatively similar, each group gaining admission at a rate of 40%.
