What do you use under DITRA?

What do you use under DITRA?

For example, to set DITRA over plywood or OSB, a modified thin-set mortar meeting the requirements of ANSI A118. 11 is used. To set DITRA over concrete or gypsum, Schluter-Systems recommends an unmodified thin-set mortar meeting the requirements of ANSI A118.

What is DITRA made out of?

polyethylene
Made of polyethylene, DITRA and DITRA-XL serve as a waterproofing layer that protects moisture-sensitive substrates, such as plywood/OSB. Free-space on the underside of the matting provides a route for excess moisture and vapor to prevent damage to the tile layer above.

Does DITRA need underlayment?

DITRA will forever change the way you lay tile. In order to protect the integrity of the tile assembly, an underlayment that performs multiple functions is required. Schluter®-DITRA is specifically designed to allow the installation of ceramic and stone tile over any even and load-bearing substrate.

How long do you wait to tile after installing DITRA?

How long do I have to wait before I can install tile on the Schluter®-DITRA membrane? Once DITRA has been installed on the substrate, tile can be installed right away. No need to wait for the mortar to cure.

Is DITRA good for tile?

DITRA is specifically designed to allow the installation of ceramic and stone tile over any even and load-bearing substrate. DITRA provides reliable waterproofing in interior and exterior applications.

Can you use DITRA under porcelain tile?

Since DITRA is impervious, it does not deprive the mortar of its moisture. Therefore, extended cure times would be required before grouting if using modified thin-set mortars between DITRA and ceramic tile, including porcelain tile.

How thick should thinset be under DITRA?

The Ditra membrane itself is 1/8″ thick, and Schluter recommends using a size 1/4″x3/16″ V notched or Square notch trowel 11/64″x11/64″ between the subfloor to Ditra, and 1/4″x3/8″ square or U notched trowel between Ditra to the tile.
