Is EVLA safe?

Our 5-year experience suggests that EVLA is a safe and effective alternative to conventional surgery for the treatment of varicose veins. Bilateral procedures were well tolerated by patients even under local anaesthesia.

What can I expect after EVLA?

72 hours to one week Bruising along the treatment site is normal and can be reduced by applying ice as advised above. The bruising usually clears within two weeks. The varicose veins should be significantly smaller. Do not be discouraged by persisting veins, as these will continue to shrink over the next 8 weeks.

How long is EVLA treatment?

It usually takes no more than 1 to 2 hours; depending on how many veins need treating. Most patients describe both the EVLA procedure itself, and the recovery period following it, as uncomfortable rather than painful.

When was EVLA invented?

First, by Navarro et al. in their patent, filed in 1999 [4], and more recently by Fan and Anderson [8]. The latter authors, however, discarded three important alternative mechanisms not yet identified as an EVLA mechanism in 1999.

What happens to the vein after EVLA?

The varicosities normally become less obvious after EVLA but rarely disappear completely. Additional treatment for the varicosities can be either by avulsions or foam sclerotherapy. These additional treatments can be undertaken at the time of the EVLA or more usually after a delay of 4-6 weeks.

Is EVLA painful?

Is EVLA painful? This may vary from person to person depending upon your personal level of pain tolerance, but, across the board, most patients report little to no pain when undergoing EVLA. The only time patients feel any pain is when the local anesthesia is delivered.

How quickly does EVLA work?

N.B. Foam sclerotherapy, RFA and EVLA all require at least two treatment sessions in most patients. Expect it to take at least 8 weeks to see the full effect of treatment.

Is EVLA treatment painful?

Can I drive after EVLA?

Following EVLA treatment, we advise that you do not drive yourself anywhere until the following day. This is due to the local anaesthesia used to numb your skin during the procedure. Driving on the following day is perfectly fine, of course.

Can I walk after EVLA?
